Wigton's carnival will go ahead says the town’s deputy mayor, scotching rumours this year’s event could be cancelled.
Councillor Paul Radcliffe has reassured town residents the popular event will be held this summer on June 25.
Fears it might not get off the ground came as carnival champions Dennis and Kath Graham stepped down from the organising committee.
According to Mr Radcliffe, the pair have many other commitments in the market town, but they will still be on hand to help with advice and support.
“We want to say thanks to Dennis and Kath for all of the hard work that they have put in over the years and the legacy they have left.
“As a thanks for everything, they will be leading this year’s carnival parade.”
Hundreds of people turned out for last year’s event, which had a disco inferno theme.
Mr Radcliffe said the 2011 carnival promises to be just as much fun as ever.
“It will be the usual fun day with lots more events. We want people to come out with their floats and costumes. It has always been a very enjoyable day.”
All are welcome to get involved in the planning stages of the event.
“We want people to come forward and share their ideas,” he added.
