A PROFILE of Wigton coach, Malcolm Brown
Name: Malcolm Brown
Height: 6ft 1ins
Weight: 102 kgs
Club: Coach Wigton RU
Former clubs: Played for Aspatria, Fylde, Vale of Lune
How often do you train? I coach twice a week at Wigton but I also do my own circuit training. I’m not a big one for the gym but I often go for a cross-country run and enjoy a fell run, particularly over my favourite Sale Fell.
Do you have a special diet? I don’t have a special diet as such but I try and eat healthily. As I’m teaching GCSE PE I’m well aware of what we should be eating. Actually my weight has been the same for six years.
Favourite food: Fillet steak with a Stilton sauce
Hated food: Can’t think of one really. In 21 years of married life I’ve never turned down a meal.
Best player played with: There have been several very good players, particularly here in Cumbria. George Doggart and David Pears were outstanding half-backs while I’ve played with some great, rugged Cumbrian forwards like Peter Kremer, Sam Hodgson and Mark Richardson.
Best player played against: I have to say that in a cup match for Vale of Lune against Harlequins I was up against Mick Skinner and he was very formidable. He stands out above anyone really.
Sportsman you would most like to meet: Definitely Brian Moore, probably over dinner because I think he would be very interesting and entertaining and I admire his honesty in how he writes.
Will you keep regularly exercising after you retire? Yes, definitely. One of the things I have enjoyed since I was in my 20s is road cycling and I will definitely step-up on that. I like the challenge of cycling hill climbs.
What do you enjoy most about being fit? The cleansed feeling you get after a very good work-out and a good shower.
