Penalties needed to settle Aspatria’s cup tie

ASPATRIA and Mirehouse fought for 120 minutes in the ISS Waterers Peter Dawson Benevolent Cup but it still ended all square, 3-3.
Richard Hudson scored all three for Aspatria but goals from Ryan Smith (2) and Callum Kinnick took the tie to penalties which Aspatria won 5-4.
Another delayed cup match saw Cleator Moor Celtic progress into the quarter-finals of the JJ Club Whitehaven Cup where they will host Longtown.
Zac Rudd scored three and Lee Dunn netted two with Carl Dixon also chipping in. Gary Hunter got the consolation for South Workington as it finished 6-1 to Cleator.
The West Cumberland Scaffolding Divisional Cup second leg tie between Parton Utd Res and Carlisle City was postponed for the fourth time.
It has now been agreed that Parton should forfeit and as Carlisle had a 10-1 lead from the first leg they go through to the quarter-finals which, due to the backlog of matches, will be straight knock-out games and not over two legs.
Tesco division one action saw Hearts of Liddesdale win 7-2 over Silloth.
Hearts’ strikes came from Daniel Brough (2), Andrew Ling (2), Will Liddel, Dean Thompson and Scott Adamson. Silloth’s goals came from Damien Horsley and Brian Hayhurst.
Wigton Athletic beat Windscale 5-1 as Lee Coulthard netted three and David Wilson and Micheal Clarke also chipped in. Zac Starkey netted for Windscale.
FC32 moved to the top of the table with a 6-3 victory over Parton Utd. Daniel McAdam netted two with Tom Pardini, David Skelton Ben Gregory and Mark Messenger getting one each. Ryan Nicholson (2) and David Hodgson were on target for Parton.
Tesco Premier League action saw Frizington Whitestar slip to a 2-1 home defeat against as Wigton Harriers, Mathew Thompson and Johnny Studholme getting Wigton’s goals and Craig Trembath scoring a penalty for Frizington.
Leaders Longtown took the points at Whitehaven AFC with a solitary Ross Martin strike.
Cockermouth had a 5-1 win over Bransty. Martin Thompson (2), Nat Mitchell James Carruthers and Emyr Hafren got the Cockermouth goals Bransty’s.
