Youngsters from St Ursula’s Primary School in Burnfoot have been busy filling shoeboxes with gifts for disadvantaged children in Romania for Operation Christmas Child.

Headteacher Jean Monkhouse said: “They walked up to the local ironmongers on Monday and left their boxes full of love to be collected.”

The school also raised more than £166 for last week’s Children in Need appeal with a talent show for parents, grandparents and friends.

Mrs Monkhouse told The Cumberland News: “The children played various musical instruments, sang, recited, acted and two boys put on a gymnastic display.

She added: “The children worked very hard practising their acts.”
